BayPort Co-Sponsors First-Ever 3D-Printed Home in Southeast Newport News

The BayPort Foundation has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg and Newport News Shipbuilding to co-sponsor a 3D-printed home in the southeast neighborhood of Newport News. The home is the first of its kind in Newport News and is anticipated to be completed in December.

BayPort's co-sponsored home is one of two being built side-by-side in partnership with Habitat and Newport News Shipbuilding. Both houses are the second and third houses in Hampton Roads being built using 3D printing technology. In 2021, Habitat dedicated the first-ever 3D-printed home in the Nation in Williamsburg.

Both Newport News houses display the newest in 3D printing technology, which is a cost-efficient and sustainable option that transforms access to affordable housing. 3D printing relies on concrete to print the walls, saving up to 15 percent per square foot in construction costs. Each is approximately 1,200 square feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

"We are blessed to have community partners like BayPort supporting our mission of building homes, communities and hope," said Janet V. Green, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. "It is wonderful to see how BayPort's funds will impact the lives of not only one family but an entire community."

As the philanthropic arm of BayPort Credit Union, the BayPort Foundation is an extension of the credit union's charitable giving. The credit union commits more than half a million dollars in annual corporate donations. In addition, it pays all the Foundation's overhead to ensure every penny of the Foundation's donations supports its mission.
