Financial Plus Credit Union Donates $20,000 to Local Children’s Hospital in Support of Mental Health Programs
Financial Plus Credit Union has proudly donated $20,000 to Hurley Children’s Hospital, with funds raised from the credit union industry’s second annual In the Cellar fundraiser. The donation will support Hurley Medical Center’s inpatient behavioral health unit which supports children experiencing mental or behavioral health crises.
In the Cellar brought together credit unions and their partners across the Great Lakes Region and raised over $1.1 million for Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals. Brad Bergmooser, President and CEO at Financial Plus Credit Union, played a critical role in the event as a member of the Board of Directors.
“There’s something special about participating in an event with national reach and being able to direct the funds raised back to our local CMN hospital, Hurley Medical Center,” remarked Bergmooser. “Our team had the privilege of touring Hurley Children’s Hospital, where we saw firsthand the incredible work being done to support children facing mental health challenges. The compassion and dedication of the staff, along with the courage of the young patients and their families, is truly remarkable.”
In addition to Financial Plus Credit Union’s commitment to In the Cellar, generous partners MANTL and Member Driven Technologies each directing their contributions to Hurley Children’s Hospital.
Brooklyn Kennings, Director of Pediatric Programs & Development at the Hurley Foundation, shared her appreciation for Financial Plus Credit Union’s support. “Words can't describe how grateful we are to receive this gift," said Kennings. "We are only able to celebrate such a significant gift because of Financial Plus Credit Union's direct involvement in this year's In the Cellar event. The platform this gift has provided to Hurley's Adolescent Behavioral Health program is deeply meaningful."
Following the event, Financial Plus Credit Union’s executive team attended an informational session at Hurley Medical Center, where they learned how their contributions will support the hospital’s mission. The session featured insights from Hurley’s Service Line Administrator, Director of the Behavioral Health Complex, representative from the Child & Family Life team, and an emotional testimonial from a mother whose child was treated at Hurley. The day concluded with a tour of Hurley Children’s Hospital, offering the team a personal look at the impact of the donation.
