Financial Plus Credit Union Wins State-Level CUNA Award for Social Responsibility

Financial Plus Credit Union has been awarded first place for the 2022 CUNA Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award at the state-level. The award is given to a credit union or chapter/multiple credit union group for its social responsibility projects within the community.

“The League congratulates the Michigan winners of the 2022 CUNA awards,” said MCUL CEO Patty Corkery. “I am very proud of our state credit unions, all of which work tirelessly to find new ways to build financial health for our 5.87 million members. The many programs and services represented among this year’s winners is a great example of that commitment.”

Financial Plus Credit Union’s award submission detailed its efforts as the Founding Sponsor of Pink Night Palooza, with the event raising over $200,000 for local breast cancer patients. The theme “Ready, Set, Break Records!” was used to highlight Financial Plus Credit Union’s other record-breaking efforts including: the highest participation in their company-wide American Red Cross Blood Drive helping save 96 lives with donated blood, their annual holiday food drive generating over 4,400 meals for the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, and a tripled number of employees making weekly contributions to United Way of Genesee County.

Credit Union National Association (CUNA) created the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award to encourage and honor credit union and chapter involvement in community projects and activities. Dora Maxwell was a community activist who committed her life to credit union development, to her community and to serving the underserved.
