HFS Federal Credit Union Offers $45,000 in Scholarships

HFS Federal Credit Union is devoted to the success of every milestone in the lives of its members and community, offering tools and personalized support for every stage of life. This includes offering solutions to the ever-increasing cost of higher education and the challenges students face in planning and preparing to go to college.

Since 2012, HFS has helped to relieve some of the financial stress that comes with pursuing a college degree by awarding over 100 scholarships to student members totaling over $244,000. Previous recipients and applicants have expressed their desire to pursue a college degree so they can return to the Big Island to serve the community and take care of the land and people they grew up with. Recipients have gone on to study in fields such as Physical Therapy, Astrophysics, Wildlife Science, Political Science and Government Affairs, Material Science and Engineering, and Medical Diagnostic Sonography.

Applications for the 2024 HFS Scholarship Program are now being accepted online from current Big Island high school seniors in the graduating class of 2024 and existing college students. This year, the Credit Union has increased the amount of each scholarship to $3,000 each and will be awarding scholarships to ten (10) Big Island graduating seniors and five (5) current college students. A total of $45,000 will be awarded to qualified applicants who are the future positive contributors and leaders in our community.

Student members of HFS pursuing higher education full-time at an accredited 2 or 4 year Vocational-Technical School, College, or University in the 2024 – 2025 academic year are eligible to apply. Recipients will be selected based on a variety of criteria, including academic performance, achievements, and community service.

For a complete list of requirements and to apply students may visit hfsfcu.org or inquire with their high school counselors. Completed applications with supporting documents must be submitted online no later than Thursday, February 29, 2024.
