Mazuma Credit Union Gains National Exposure with “Viewpoint” Feature

Acclaimed educational series “Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid” highlights local institution

Mazuma Credit Union, which has been serving the Kansas City community for over 75 years, is gaining national recognition through its partnership with “Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid”. This award-winning series of short documentaries, which highlight innovation and excellence in a wide range of organizations, will deliver Mazuma’s message about the unique and vital purpose of credit unions to households across the United States over the coming months.

“When the producers of ‘Viewpoint’ first approached us about their interest in featuring our credit union, we were honored and honestly a bit surprised,” says Deonne Christensen, Mazuma’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Once we delved into their body of work, we realized what an important opportunity this was for us to speak about our purpose as a not for profit, Member-owned financial institution.”

Mazuma has been a fixture among Kansas City financial institutions for decades and gained visibility through ongoing partnerships with the Sporting Kansas City and Kansas City Current professional soccer teams. Their support of local non-profit organizations through the Mazuma Foundation has also raised their profile in the community, but the mini documentary developed in collaboration with the “Viewpoint” team will bring their message to a larger audience than ever before.

“This is an unprecedented opportunity for us to share the credit union difference with not just our Members and community in Kansas City, but with interested and engaged people around the country,” says Caroline Engle, Mazuma’s Vice President of Marketing. “We’re excited by the chance to highlight our unique and personal approach to banking and community support, and to encourage people to seek out credit unions in their local markets.”

Credit unions like Mazuma, which serves Members who live or work in the Kansas City area, occupy a specific space in the financial services ecosystem, providing the same products and services as banks but with a local focus and dedication to giving back to their communities. Mazuma’s “Viewpoint” documentary provides visibility and education for credit unions operating across the country.

“At Mazuma, our passion and attention is first and foremost with our Members and with Kansas City,” says Christensen, “but we couldn’t be more pleased to shine a national spotlight on the credit unions that share our commitment to helping people access financial services, providing financial education, and giving back to our local communities. Our message is simple – join a credit union near you and be part of something bigger.”

Mazuma’s “Viewpoint” feature is currently being broadcast on public television and news channels in Kansas City and across the United States. To view the video and learn more, visit viewpoint.mazuma.org.
