Mazuma Credit Union’s Give Back Day is Bigger than Ever

Mazuma Credit Union, which celebrates its 75th anniversary of serving Kansas City this year, held its 6th annual Give Back Day on Monday, October 9th. Part of the Credit Union’s 40 Hours for Good program, Give Back Day enables Mazuma Team Members to spend their workday volunteering with local organizations in support of the charitable work they do in Kansas City. Mazuma’s purpose is “Making Kansas City a Better Place to Live, Work, and Bank,” and Give Back Day is one of many opportunities each year for the Credit Union to put this ethos into practice in the communities it serves.

This year, 180 Mazuma Team Members representing various branches and departments took part in the event, breaking the Credit Union’s previous participation record. They shared their time and effort with 5 local non-profit organizations at 10 locations across the Kansas City metropolitan area for a total impact of over 1400 volunteer hours spent in one day assisting groups that make a positive difference in the community.

“Mazuma’s Team Members were a great group to work with and we are so grateful they chose to spend their time helping us out,” said Andy R. Cefalu, Volunteer & Recruiting Coordinator for the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium. “They accomplished so much for multiple departments and all with smiles on their faces!” Gwen Davison, Hillcrest Transitional Housing’s Volunteer Coordinator, added that “The volunteers from Mazuma did two days’ worth of work in just one day at our thrift store locations. Kudos to all of them!”

The Credit Union’s Team Members also appreciate the ability to serve in the community, learn new skills, and connect with local charitable organizations. “Give Back Day is one of my favorite days of the year,” said Meghan Reeb, Mazuma’s Culture Specialist and Communication Designer, “It's a day to really put in the work to make a difference. I love spending time with our Team Members and getting our hands dirty. It’s all about lending a helping hand, which Mazuma is always eager to do!”

Other organizations and Community Partners served as part of this year’s Give Back Day included multiple Kansas City Community Gardens locations, Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, and Habitat KC ReStore. Mazuma’s 40 Hours for Good program gives all Team Members 40 hours of paid volunteer time each year to use in support of local community organizations. This focus on volunteer engagement is a core aspect of the Credit Union’s philosophy, which prioritizes making a positive difference for the Members and community it serves.
