Members First Credit Union's "Double the Donation" Raises $40,000 to Support New Dawn Shelter

The "Double the Donation" campaign led by Members First Credit Union in support of New Dawn Shelter has resulted in a donation of $20,000 from the credit union, in addition to the $20,000 raised by our community. This accomplishment highlights the remarkable generosity and unity that characterizes our Gladwin community and its neighboring regions.

Launched in July and extending over two months, the "Double the Donation" Campaign rallied community members, local businesses, and credit union members to support New Dawn Shelter. For every dollar donated, up to $20,000, Members First matched the donation, effectively doubling the impact of each contribution, culminating in a total contribution of $40,000.

New Dawn Shelter, a beacon of hope for those grappling with homelessness, offers a comprehensive 90-day program. Within this program, individuals benefit from personalized support provided by dedicated case management staff, with the ultimate goal of achieving enduring stability. This support includes housing, income generation, and crucial life skills such as financial management and budgeting.

The cost of providing shelter for one guest for a day at New Dawn Shelter is $19. With four bedrooms capable of accommodating 10 to 12 guests, spanning across men, women, and families, New Dawn Shelter relies heavily on the generosity of individuals, local businesses, and churches. These benevolent donations form the lifeblood of the shelter, ensuring its continued operations and vital support for those seeking a fresh start.

“We are very thankful to our community members for helping make this campaign such a success,” said Kristen Williamson, Community Relations Leader at Members First. New Dawn Shelter is so vital to Gladwin and its surrounding areas. It’s an honor to partner with them and play a small role in their impact.”
