Members vote in favor of CUNA-NAFCU merger

AMERICA’S CREDIT UNIONS POSITIONED TO TRANSFORM INDUSTRY REPRESENTATION, STRATEGY

CUNA CEO Jim Nussle, the future CEO of America’s Credit Unions, announced the overwhelming vote in favor of the CUNA-NAFCU merger in a letter to members. Here’s what it says:

It’s official: Members of CUNA and NAFCU have voted overwhelmingly in favor of merging the two organizations and creating a single national trade association, “America’s Credit Unions.

Of those that voted, 94 percent of CUNA members and 86 percent of NAFCU members voted in favor of the merger.

I want to thank you for being open and engaged throughout the merger process – we’ve learned a lot from you about what the industry needs in terms of advocacy, compliance assistance, education and training opportunities, resources, and more.

While the vote is over, the work is just beginning. America’s Credit Unions is set to legally launch Jan. 1, 2024, and it is our goal to be fully operational by early 2025. We respectfully ask you for your membership support throughout 2024 to ensure America’s Credit Unions has the resources necessary to transform and best serve you.

Now that you have approved the transformation, the team and I will spend the coming weeks and first part of the year working to establish an organizational culture, structure, and strategy that is purposeful and relevant to you as we move into the future.

I promise we will continue to provide excellent member service and be responsive to you even as we work through and make difficult decisions. We request that you continue to hold us accountable and continue to offer feedback on how we can best meet your needs.

We will provide regular updates on our progress as we combine the best of both organizations. Additional information will be shared soon; in the meantime, you can access merger-related resource on CUNA's website or NAFCU's website

The credit union industry’s future is brighter than ever. I am incredibly humbled to lead this transformation. Thank you for your support of America’s Credit Unions – we will not let you down.

Sincerely,

Jim Nussle
