Texas Trust Backpack Campaign Wins Two Pinnacle Awards

The Cornerstone Marketing and Business Development Council was impressed enough with the Texas Trust Credit Union Backpack giveaway campaign that it recognized the initiative with two Pinnacle awards.

The campaign, created to help parents offset the cost of back-to-school supplies, earned top honors in the public relations/community involvement and special events categories.

Texas Trust filled 2,200 backpacks with routine school supplies and gave them away to parents with school-aged children.

Various national studies indicate that parents typically spend more than $100 per child on back-to-school supplies. For single parents or families with multiple children, this can create a significant financial burden.

Texas Trust hid $250 in one backpack as an extra surprise. It was selected by a single mom of two elementary-aged children. The day she came into the credit union she was planning to apply for a small short-term loan to buy some of the supplies and clothes her children needed for school.

“This campaign was meaningful to the parents and their children, as well as our staff,” said Heidi Hardy, Vice President of Public Relations for Texas Trust Credit Union. “We were elated that the backpack with the hidden money inside it went to such a deserving family.”

Hardy added, “Her story alone made the campaign a success. We are honored that the Cornerstone Marketing Council recognized the impact this campaign had on the community.”
