Westerra Credit Union Honors Local Teacher Sarah Siddens with First Pitch at Colorado Rockies Game During Teacher Appreciation Week
Westerra Credit Union, in partnership with the Colorado Rockies, honored Sarah Siddens, a first grade teacher at Gust Elementary School, with the Westerra Credit Union Teacher First Pitch during the May 10 baseball game. This recognition is part of the larger Teacher Appreciation Week celebration.
Siddens’ submission, selected from a pool of over 450 applicants, highlighted her work in establishing a therapy dog program and serving as Wellness Champion for Gust Elementary, part of the Denver Public School district. In fact, Onyx, her Goldendoodle, served as the school's first therapy dog, which underscores her dedication to fostering a supportive and healthy environment for all.
“While all the submissions were exceptional, Sarah’s showcased her remarkable dedication to education, mental health and community service,” said Andrea McDermott, community engagement manager at Westerra Credit Union. “Her innovative approach to promoting mental health and emotional well-being among students and staff further enhances the learning environment and provides invaluable support to the school community.”
“One of my favorite things about teaching is watching my students find their love for learning and explore the world around them. I have seen firsthand the positive impact on students’ mental health when they are around Onyx and [I] love being able to help provide that additional support,” said Siddens. “Being part of the first-pitch ceremony at the Colorado Rockies game was such an honor and a cool experience! I am humbled by this recognition.”
In addition to the first pitch ceremony, Westerra Credit Union will celebrate teachers throughout the year with special promotions and recognition initiatives.
