Affinity Plus Credit Union Rallies Communities to Take the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Minnesota

This winter, Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union (Affinity Plus) is encouraging Minnesotans to take the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Minnesota. The Minnesota-based credit union is offering the first 2,000 plungers who sign up using the code AFFINITYPLUS a $50 donation toward their $75 fundraising minimum.

A longtime supporter of Special Olympics Minnesota, Affinity Plus hopes to attract more people to take the plunge this year by helping kick start individual fundraising campaigns. Money raised during the Polar Plunge—the biggest fundraiser for Special Olympics Minnesota—supports year-round athletic and health-based services for thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities across the state. Last year, more than 2,100 plungers used the Affinity Plus promo code, adding up to a donation of more than $112,000.

“The Special Olympics is a cause near and dear to our hearts here at Affinity Plus,” said Adam Layne, senior community engagement specialist. “We’ve supported the organization since 2008, hundreds of our employees and members plunge every year and we’re excited to welcome new plungers this year to take the leap and experience the unbeatable energy of a Polar Plunge event.”

In addition to supporting an amazing cause, all Polar Plunge participants can enter into a sweepstakes to win two tickets to see the Minnesota Wild host the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, April 11. The sweepstakes also include two tickets to the Bud Light Top Shelf Lounge and complimentary food and beverages during the game.

This year, Special Olympics Minnesota is celebrating its 50th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of the Polar Plunge.

“A $50 head-start towards the fundraising minimum is an awesome way to celebrate 50 years of inclusion, athleticism and leadership in Minnesota,” said Katie Howlett, director of marketing and communications at Special Olympics Minnesota. “We are so grateful that Affinity Plus has not only taken the plunge year after year, but has offered this code to encourage others to do the same!”
