Affinity Plus Opens Branch in Virginia

New location strengthens Minnesota-based credit union’s community-focused initiatives in the Iron Range

Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union (Affinity Plus) today announced its new Virginia branch, located at 1460 S. 12th Ave West, is officially open for business. This strategic expansion adds to its successful branches in Grand Rapids and Duluth, further reinforcing the credit union’s commitment to serve Minnesotans in the northeastern portion of the state.

The new location provides the Virginia community with convenient, on-site access to the credit union’s full suite of member-centric programs and quality banking services, including better than free checking accounts, low rates on recreational vehicle loans and high yield savings accounts. The branch will offer a close, brick-and-mortar location to more than 700 existing members in the area. Affinity Plus also plans to further expand its physical footprint with a new branch in Shakopee later this year.

“As a community-focused financial institution, Affinity Plus strongly prioritizes investing in the communities that it’s a part of,” said Amanda Bruggman, branch leader at the Duluth Affinity Plus branch. “We began engaging with the local community recently by delivering goody bags to local first responders, along with carrying out other random acts of kindness around town. More recently, we donated $5,000 to Second Harvest Northland, the food bank serving St. Louis County. We can’t wait to deepen our connections with the community and continue to invest in Virginia while providing local residents with the premium banking services that Affinity Plus is known for.”

As a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative, Affinity Plus is focused on offering services that make banking less stressful for its members. The credit union was recently recognized with an award from the Minnesota Credit Union Network (MNCUN) and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) for its dramatic revision of its fee structure, which saved members $10 million in one year. It also offers early pay, which allows members to access their regular paychecks up to two days early, improving cash flow and creating better money management.

Affinity Plus plans to host a grand opening event at the Virginia branch in late spring. The Virginia location’s lobby is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The branch is currently seeking candidates for the branch manager position, with job details posted here. More information on the new branch can be found here.
