Affinity Plus Opens St. Paul-Midway Branch

New location is only credit union in the neighborhood and will include all-bilingual staff

Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union (Affinity Plus) today opened a new location in St. Paul’s Midway neighborhood, an area that was previously without a credit union. Located in the heart of Midway at 1315 University Avenue West, St. Paul, the new branch will provide the surrounding community with much-needed banking options.

The St. Paul-Midway location will bring area residents convenient access to the credit union’s full suite of banking services and member-centric programs. The St. Paul-Midway branch’s employees can help with services including account openings, budgeting and financial education, and are all bilingual in Spanish or Tagalog. The first 50 members helped in the new branch will receive a gift bag.

“As a community-focused financial institution, we are committed to bringing exceptional financial resources to people in our community, especially those who don’t have a bank account or are relying on alternative products outside of the traditional banking system,” said Amber Shanley, director of branch services at Affinity Plus. “The Midway neighborhood has lacked banking options, so we’re really excited to connect with the members of this community and look forward to removing barriers and providing access to high-quality financial services.”

Affinity Plus is a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative that offers services that makes banking less stressful for its members, a large percentage of whom are low-income families and individuals. In July, Affinity Plus became the state’s first credit union to eliminate outdated non-sufficient funds fees and dramatically reform charges for courtesy payment services. It also launched the nation’s first all-digital banking cooperative, Dora Financial, which is designed to serve low-to-moderate income individuals who are underserved by the traditional banking industry.

The Minnesota-based credit union also offers early pay, which allows members access their regular paychecks up to two days early, improving cash flow and creating better money management.

The St. Paul-Midway location’s lobby is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with video banking available on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon. More information on the new branch can be found here.
