America’s Credit Unions Congratulates 2024 General Election Winners

While results are still incoming, America’s Credit Unions is proud to announce a successful night for credit union champions. Among the 388 supported candidates, 322 won their seats as of Wednesday (Nov. 6) morning. The association is also tracking 52 open seats. In the 39 races called so far, 39 future champions have been elected.

“As a former Member of Congress, I know all too well the jitters that come from an election night,” said America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Jim Nussle. “America’s Credit Unions, in partnership with the credit union leagues, proudly supported candidates from both sides of the aisle who support the credit union mission of affordable and safe financial services for all. We congratulate those who will fill the halls of the 119th Congress and look forward to engaging on the industry’s top priorities like our federal tax exemption status and interchange.”

Among the declared winners as of Wednesday (Nov. 6) morning are credit union champions supported by America’s Credit Unions and its PAC with nearly $4 million dollars in independent expenditures and member communications to boost their candidacy. In total, the PAC and National Advocacy Fund (NAF) invested more than $7 million in 388 pro-credit union candidates from every state and split 50/50 for Democrats and Republicans.

  • Mike Bost (R-IL-12), $250,000 (March primary spend)

  • William Timmons (R-SC-04), $200,000 (June primary spend)

  • Zach Nunn (R-IA-03), $451,000

  • Angie Craig (D-MN-02), $400,000

  • Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-01), $400,000

In January 2025, America’s Credit Unions will be ready to fully engage with seasoned and freshman lawmakers on the credit union difference and the industry’s priorities. Key provisions in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act sunset next year – opening the door this coming Congress for tax policy debate. The number one priority for America’s Credit Unions’ membership is preserving the industry’s federal income tax exemption that allows credit unions to be consumers’ best financial partner and reinvest in their communities.

America’s Credit Unions has a history of not endorsing presidential candidates and has worked with administrations on both sides of the aisle to advance the credit union mission. Read more at America’s Credit Unions Election Hub.
