AmFirst Donates 55,000 Meals to Alabamians

AmFirst announced today that it provided 55,000 meals to Alabamians during the month of July through the Feeding Families Across Alabama Food Drive. The drive was  undertaken in partnership with the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama and Sinclair Broadcasting.

AmFirst collected nearly 18,000 pounds of food for the drive across all participating branches. The credit union  also presented a gift of $10,000 to the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, funding 40,000 additional  meals.

Bill Connor, President & CEO of AmFirst, expressed gratitude for the support the food drive received, saying,  "We are thrilled by the outpouring of donations and participation in our food drive. For the fifth year, this initiative  has been a great example of what can be achieved when a community comes together to support those in  need. The contributions will significantly impact the lives of many families, ensuring they have access to  nutritious food. Our success in this endeavor would not have been possible without the support from the  community, members, and staff of AmFirst."

According to the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, food insecurity is a persistent issue in the  communities it serves, where one in five area residents needs assistance to put food on the table. The problem  is even worse for children, with one in four facing food insecurity at any given time.

"The Community Food Bank of Central Alabama is extremely grateful to AmFirst and ABC 33/40 for their 5th  annual Feeding Families Across Alabama Food Drive,” said Ginger Pegues, Director of Development at the  Community Food Bank of Central Alabama. β€œToo many people are making difficult choices between food and  other monthly expenses, and this food drive was a wonderful way for our community to come together to help our  neighbors experiencing food insecurity."
