California Credit Unions Donate $331,000 to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital

Support from RCU and other credit unions helps children and families receive life-saving medical research and care

Redwood Credit Union CEO Brett Martinez and Patelco Credit Union CEO Erin Mendez presented a $331,000 check to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital leadership on behalf of the Credit Unions for Kids Wine Auction executive committee. This was one of several donations made to Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) hospitals throughout California and Nevada.

The 18th annual Wine Auction, co-chaired by RCU’s Martinez and California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues’ President Diana Dykstra, raised a record-breaking $1.7 million for the 11 California and Nevada CMN Hospitals. Every dollar goes directly to CMN Hospitals to provide kids and families in local communities with quality medical care. More than 500 guests attended this year’s Wine Auction, including representatives from 66 credit unions, business partners, and hospitals. It’s the single largest fundraising event for Credit Unions for Kids, generating $14 million since 2006. This year’s event raised more than $1 million for the ninth consecutive year.

“Having seen first-hand the incredible impact UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital has on the children and families it serves, we’re honored to support them and other Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals who do life-changing and life-saving work in our communities,” said Brett Martinez, President and CEO of Redwood Credit Union. “Supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals aligns naturally with the credit union philosophy of people helping people.”

Credit Unions for Kids (CU4Kids) is a nonprofit collaboration that engages the full ecosystem of credit unions, chapters, leagues, associations, and business partners in raising funds for children’s hospitals to support health and wellness in local communities. Credit unions are the fifth largest contributor to CMN Hospitals. One hundred percent of every dollar donated by members of the credit union movement goes to the CMN Hospital that serves the local community.

UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital is among the nation’s best pediatric medical centers in all 10 specialties assessed by U.S. News & World Report. Their expertise covers virtually all pediatric conditions, including cancer, heart disease, neurological disorders, pulmonology, diabetes, and endocrinology, as well as the care of critically ill newborns.
