evolve FCU | Social Purpose community Outreach Event Summer Slam 2024
On Saturday, July 6, evolve FCU hosted its second Social Purpose event of the year, “Summer Slam 2024,” at the El Paso Chihuahuas baseball stadium, where the credit union provided tickets to a private event to seven of its partner organizations respectively. Organizations included in this event were the Child Crisis Center, Candlelighters, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Make-A-Wish of El Paso, The El Paso Children Miracle Network, Lee and Beulah Moor Children’s Home, and The Center Against Sexual and Family Violence.
The children’s organizations were greeted with a warm welcome at the baseball stadium, where they were able to sit comfortably at the Santa Fe Pavilion, a private area just for the children’s organizations. They were able to enjoy a lunch buffet that provided hot dogs, kettle chips, watermelon, freshly baked cookies, and refreshment drinks like fruit punch and lemonade. The kids and families had a great time as many of these kids do not get a chance to go on an outing like this, whether it be because of their financial situation, life threatening illnesses, or being under foster care. One of the mothers from the Make-A-Wish families stated that this was their first time attending a game and that her son was very excited to meet Chico, the baseball team’s mascot. A mother from El Paso Children’s Mircale Network, Araceli Muniz, stated “My family and I have been able to fully enjoy it because its accommodating to children like my daughter. Bella is a multi-medical complex child that requires so much to go anywhere. Due to the size of her wheelchair, we don't normally fit anywhere. The event is planned out in such a way that we can offer Bella what she needs and keep her happy and safe. Seeing her tender smile and hearing her laugh makes this momma’s heart full of joy and her eyes full of happy tears.” It was the perfect way to end the Independence week for the children’s organizations that are part of evolve’s Social Purpose.
