First Commerce to Host Free Community Shred Day in Partnership with Leon County Sheriff’s Office and Secure Records Solutions on Thursday, November 7

Community Shred Day event empowers individuals and businesses to safely discard documents containing confidential information

First Commerce Credit Union is partnering with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and Secure Records Solutions (SRS) to offer a free, drive-thru Shred Day event to help members of the community safely and conveniently discard their confidential documents by having them shredded. Not only is it a great way to clear out clutter, but shredding old documents containing personal information is an easy way to guard against fraud and identity theft.

Tallahassee residents and surrounding areas are invited to visit First Commerce’s Summit East Financial Center located within the headquarters building at 2073 Summit Lake Drive. The Shred Day drive-thru event will be held Thursday, November 7th from 11 am until 1 p.m. (ET) with the SRS shred truck stationed in the parking lot in front of the building to accept boxes of documents until the truck is full.

To ensure as many people as possible can take advantage of this free community service, a three-box per person limit will be strictly enforced. Each box should be unsealed and no larger than a standard 12x15-inch Bankers Box.

“Our goal in providing this free service to the community is to empower individuals, families and local businesses to protect themselves from becoming victims of fraud and identity theft,” said First Commerce CEO Cecilia Homison. “We are proud to partner with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and Secure Records Solutions to create greater awareness about protecting your personal information so it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.”

During the event, First Commerce volunteers will be on hand to assist with unloading documents from vehicles and placing them into bins, which will then be emptied into the shred truck. There is no need to remove staples, paper clips or paper-based folders. Documents in plastic bags will not be accepted.

"Safely shredding documents that contain personal and financial information is vital for protecting your identity and ensuring your safety," said Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil. "Taking this simple step can significantly reduce the risk of identity theft and help you maintain control over your sensitive data."

Shred Day visitors are also invited to come in and experience First Commerce’s newly renovated, full-service financial center at Summit East. The state-of-the-art financial center prioritizes comfort and functionality, offering meeting spaces to consult one-on-one with knowledgeable team members. Additionally, the financial center has two ATMs adjacent to the lobby with 24/7 access. The enhanced ATMs provide video teller service during extended hours Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. An additional drive-thru ATM is available in the parking lot in front of the financial center. The Summit East Technology Park is located on Highway 90 near I-10 Exit 209B, approximately 1 mile east of the Tallahassee Automobile Museum and the Amazon Fulfillment Center.
