Members First Credit Union Helps Stock Farwell Elementary’s First-Ever Book Vending Machine
Members First Credit Union is excited to announce its involvement in a unique and impactful project at Farwell Elementary School, where they've helped launch the school’s first-ever book vending machine by stocking it with hundreds of new books.
Members First Credit Union purchased 295 books, investing $2,685 to provide students with a wide selection of engaging books designed to inspire curiosity and a love of learning. Students can select books from the vending machine using tokens earned through positive actions, including achievements like Student of the Month and recognition in the “Caught You Being Good” program. This initiative celebrates students’ efforts in helping others, showing respect, and setting a positive example for their peers.
"When we at Farwell Elementary first learned about book vending machines, the staff became very excited and sought ways to fund one for our kids—a dream over two years in the making,” shared Carrie Carncross, Farwell Elementary School Principal. “We can't thank Members First Credit Union enough for their generosity in purchasing books to fill this machine for the very
first time! This purchase, made at our recent Scholastic book fair, also earned Scholastic dollars for future purchases. We can't wait to gather the students around and show them how it works. What an amazing gift for students—encouragement to love reading!"
“At Members First, we believe in supporting our local schools and creating opportunities that promote education,” said Chelsea McKenzie, Community Relations Specialist at Members First Credit Union and a proud alumna of Farwell Elementary. “As a credit union founded by teachers in 1936, we’ve always honored our roots by supporting schools and education in our community. This project is especially meaningful to me as a former student here—it’s an exciting way to combine literacy with positive reinforcement, and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.”
Members First Credit Union is proud to contribute to initiatives like this that foster education, community, and joy. Through projects like this, Members First remains dedicated to empowering students and giving back to the communities it serves.
