United Federal Credit Union Names Will Schirmer Chief Human Resources Officer

United Federal Credit Union has named Will Schirmer to the position of Chief Human Resources Officer.

“We are thrilled to welcome Will to Team United and to our leadership team,” said United President/CEO Terry O’Rourke. “Our employees are the heartbeat of the credit union, so hiring a Chief Human Resources Officer with a compassion and understanding for those he works with, and a strategic vision for building a diverse, inclusive and collaborative culture was of upmost importance. Will not only fits that criteria, he adds even more.”

In his role, Schirmer will be responsible for providing operational and strategic leadership to the human resources team in the areas of compensation and benefits programs, payroll operations, recruiting, employee relations, performance management, data management, and training and development.

“I’m extremely excited to join the team at United,” said Schirmer. “United’s passion for service excellence, fantastic team members, clear vision, and progressive strategy for serving local communities all attracted me – and are aligned with my personal and professional values. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to United’s continued success, and to help our employees, members, and communities.”

Schirmer has more than 23 years of experience within the Human Resources function. His leadership roles include a variety of industries, including credit unions. Prior to joining United, he led a Sound Physicians Human Resources team in Washington.

“Will has a passion for Talent Management, and his experience in recruitment, onboarding, training, and employee engagement will positively impact Team United,” said O’Rourke.

Schirmer holds a bachelor’s degree in behavioral and political science from Minnesota State University, a master’s degree in social sciences from University of Leicester, and a master’s degree in human resource management from Fort Hays State University.
