Redwood Credit Union’s New Napa Branch to Host Free Document Shredding Event

Popular Shred-a-Thon takes place August 19

Redwood Credit Union invites the Napa community to come out to their annual free document shredding event on Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 9 a.m. to noon. This year’s event will be held at their new, second Napa branch at 480 Devlin Road. The popular Shred-a-Thon will feature free document shredding provided by Shred-It.

“We're thrilled to provide our community with a free environmentally friendly way to dispose of sensitive and confidential documents. It's especially exciting to be able to host this event at our new branch,” said Melissa Van Paris, RCU’s Napa branch service manager. “Safely eliminating old financial documents and other confidential information is one of the best measures people can take to protect themselves from identity theft.”

Attendees may bring up to three standard-sized boxes (15”x12”x10”) of confidential documents for shredding, such as old financial statements, canceled checks, and credit card offers.

Monetary donations will be accepted at the event to benefit Puertas Abiertas Community Resource Center, a nonprofit that works hand in hand with Napa’s Latino community to inspire healthy lifestyles, self-sufficiency, and opportunities for leadership and community engagement.

In 2022, more than 2,700 residents in Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, and Sonoma counties attended RCU shred-a-thons. Shred-It trucks helped communities dispose of 100,080 lbs. of documents, while Conservation Corps collected 24,300 lbs. of e-waste. To put it in perspective, the shredded paper alone has an environmental impact equal to 12,636 trees (315 acres) and 206,600 gallons of water (enough to water 330 lawns for a week).

The branch will be open and offering full banking services from 9 a.m. to noon.
