SDCCU Collects More Than 11,000 Books Through the Inaugural Lift Up Literacy Campaign in Partnership with San Diego County Library

Donations help support San Diego County Library’s local literacy efforts

San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of Southern California’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, collected and donated 11,058 books to help support the efforts of the San Diego County Library (SDCL) to promote literacy throughout San Diego County. Donations were collected at all San Diego County SDCCU branch locations during the month of October and were delivered to SDCL for distribution throughout the community.

“We are delighted at the success of our inaugural Lift Up Literacy campaign,” said Teresa Campbell, SDCCU president and CEO. “We are grateful for the generosity of all those who donated and are proud to support the great work of the San Diego County Library.”

Community donations will support SDCL initiatives dedicated to increasing access to reading throughout the county. SDCL encourages a love of reading in every way across its 33 branches, five kiosks and Free Little Libraries, an honor-based book exchange program encased in welcoming mailbox-like structures placed in areas facing literacy challenges, including transportation, financial or technical barriers.

"The San Diego County Library is deeply moved and tremendously grateful for SDCCU’s members’ generous donation of over 11,000 books to the "Lift Up Literacy" campaign,” said SDCL Library Director Migell Acosta. “Your gift supports the San Diego County Library’s mission to create opportunities born of literacy, lighting the way for our community's growth. Each book opens a door for our customers, and is another step towards their goals and aspirations. This donation is an investment in our region’s shared future, nurturing learners of all ages. Our heartfelt thanks for your pivotal role in enhancing literacy and enriching the lives of our customers."
