Universal 1 Credit Union announces the 2024 Glen R Kershner Memorial Scholarship winners

Universal 1 Credit Union (U1) members, Ryan Fitchpatrick of Lehman Catholic High School, Macey Land of Miamisburg High School and Ava Peck of Chaminade Julienne High School, were each awarded this year’s Glen R Kershner Memorial Scholarship of $1,000.00. The 2024 graduates have built an impressive list of accomplishments that has provided many opportunities for scholarship offers and grants to attend major universities.

Ryan will be attending the University of Notre Dame, where she will pursue a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in the legal field. During her time at Lehman Catholic, Ryan held multiple leadership roles, including serving as the Student Director of the Lehman Limelighters, a competitive A Capella Choir. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, President of the Stock Club, and the Founder/President of the Mock Trial team. Ryan's aspirations include earning degrees in English and Finance, which will provide a robust foundation for her future pursuits in the legal field, with a focus on corporate law or financial regulations.

Macey will be attending Miami University, where she will pursue a major in Arts and Sciences with a specialization in Zoology. During her time at Miamisburg, Macey was actively involved in several musical endeavors, including the Marching Band and Winds Symphony. Additionally, she is currently a member of the Girl Scouts and demonstrated exceptional performance in Honors English and French classes. Following graduation, Macey intends to forge a career in Zoology while continuing her involvement in Miami University's Marching Band.

Ava is set to embark on her journey at Morehead State University, where she will pursue a major in Interior Design. Ava actively participated in a range of programs at Chaminade Julienne, including Faith Leaders in God's Hands Today, Eagle Ambassadors, and the National Honor Society. Additionally, she spearheaded fundraisers at St. Christopher Parish and The Glenn at St. Joseph, showcasing her commitment to both community and school activities. During her college tenure, Ava intends to obtain her real estate license while keeping her primary focus on graduating with a degree in Interior Design.

U1 established a scholarship program in 2004 to benefit high school student credit union members seeking a post-secondary education at an accredited college. The program was named the Glen R Kershner Memorial Scholarship after his death in 2011. Mr. Kershner was a close friend, mentor and colleague at U1. His life’s impact began through a scholarship which led to a passionate 44-year career and strong legacy marked by youth financial literacy, school outreach and scholarship programs. U1 honors Glen each year by awarding this member scholarship to dedicated students pursuing a college degree.

U1 congratulates Ryan, Macey and Ava on their achievements and wishes them the best on their future endeavors.
