14 IL candidates receive support from America’s Credit Unions PAC

As Illinois voters head to the polls for their primary elections today, America’s Credit Unions and League partners have worked to identify and vet candidates of both parties who are supportive of credit unions and then work to get them elected through a variety of ways.

This includes direct support from America’s Credit Unions PAC, often for both incumbents as well as open seat candidates, such as La Shawn Ford (IL-7) and former Rep. Melissa Bean (IL-8) who have proven track records of support of credit unions in previous office.

“Our total spend in Illinois so far is $59,000. America’s Credit Unions and its PAC plan to spend $8 million to elect pro-credit union candidates in the 2026 midterms,” said Head of Political Affairs Trey Hawkins.

  1. While it is encouraging to see broad support for credit union legislation across the political spectrum by America’s Credit Unions PAC, the current slate of endorsed candidates raises questions about balance and representation. When support clusters disproportionately around candidates from one party, it can raise concerns about whether the endorsement strategy accurately represents the full range of policy perspectives held by members. A more balanced approach—one that continues to reward strong credit‑union advocacy but also ensures robust engagement with candidates across the ideological spectrum—may better reflect the varied priorities of constituents and help maintain long‑term trust in the organization’s political strategy.
