Community Financial Credit Union Welcomes McEleney as Chief Human Potential Officer

Veteran people leader succeeds Cathy Meyers as she transitions to emerita chief people officer after 42 years of service

Community Financial Credit Union announced today the appointment of Ryan McEleney as chief human potential officer, marking a significant evolution in the organization’s commitment to building a human-first, future-ready workplace.

McEleney succeeds Cathy Meyers, who is entering a novel offboarding path following a remarkable 42-year career at the credit union. Meyers will continue to provide guidance to the organization in the role of emerita chief people officer, ensuring continuity and care during this leadership transition.

“Under Ryan’s leadership we will shape the future of work for the credit union. Ryan understands the strategic call to unlocking human potential by creating the conditions for people to grow, lead, and thrive in a rapidly changing world,” said Tansley Stearns, president & ceo of Community Financial Credit Union. “We lift people. Always. We build cultures rooted in relentless care, curiosity, and accountability. Ryan’s work will focus on the actions that truly untap human potential, developing leaders who are 21st-century ready, creating real cushions for growth, and ensuring this organization grows and nurtures world changers.”

Stearns added that Community Financial is explicit about the culture it protects and grows. “We assume the best of intentions. We believe in second chances. We attract people who relentlessly want to grow. We celebrate graduations. Alumni remember us fondly as a place where they became more than they thought possible, and Ryan is committed to build on that foundation.”

McEleney brings a track record of human-first leadership, organizational development, and future-focused talent strategy. As chief human potential officer, he will lead efforts across leadership development, culture, performance, learning, and workforce design, ensuring the credit union’s people strategy matches its ambition and impact.

The credit union also recognized the extraordinary legacy of Cathy Meyers, whose four-decade career helped shape generations of leaders and a deeply values-driven organization.

“Cathy built the foundation we stand on,” Stearns said. “Her influence lives in our leaders, our culture, and our belief to invest in people. We are grateful she will continue walking with us as emerita chief people officer.”

This leadership transition comes as Community Financial continues its purpose to create joy and ignite Michiganders’ impossible dreams.
