Virginia Credit Union Association Honors Delegate Briana Sewell as 2025 Lawmaker of the Year

The Virginia Credit Union Association, a subsidiary of The League of Credit Unions, recognizes Delegate Briana Sewell (HD‑25) as the recipient of the 2025 State Lawmaker of the Year Award in Virginia, honoring her leadership and support of credit unions and the members she serves.

“Delegate Sewell has shown outstanding leadership in championing The League’s public deposits budget amendment during the 2025 legislative session,” Nadine Slocum, Senior Director of Governmental Affairs at The League. “Her commitment to advancing policies that strengthen financial choice and protect community resources demonstrates her dedication to improving the lives of all Virginians.”

Since joining the Virginia House of Delegates in 2021, Delegate Briana Sewell has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service and an understanding of the role financial institutions play in supporting individuals, businesses, and local economies. Through service on the Finance Committee and Appropriations Committee and engagement on key policy issues, Delegate Sewell has helped advance initiatives that strengthen access to financial services across Virginia. Her professional background in public policy, community advocacy, and nonprofit leadership further informs her approach to policymaking.
