First Tech Federal Credit Union is expanding its leadership bench with a heavy hitter: Steven Wright is stepping into the Chief Legal Officer role, bringing serious credentials and a track record of guiding major financial institutions through complex legal terrain.
Wright will report directly to First Tech President and CEO Shruti Miyashiro, taking the reins of the credit union’s Enterprise Governance & Legal Affairs (EGLA), Government Affairs, and Compliance teams. Translation? He’ll be the go-to person for all things legal strategy, regulatory compliance, and making sure the organization stays on the right side of the rulebook while serving its members.
“We are pleased to welcome Steven to the First Tech leadership team,” Miyashiro said. “His expertise in finance, governance, and strategic leadership will help strengthen our organization as we continue to grow and serve our members.”
Wright’s résumé reads like a greatest hits compilation of high-level legal work. He’s spent years as lead counsel and strategic advisor for several Fortune 200 companies, most recently serving as General Counsel and Chief Ethics Officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. There, he wasn’t just pushing papers—he advised senior leadership on legal, policy, and governance matters while also running the Enterprise Services Division. That meant overseeing Legal, Real Estate Services, Law Enforcement, and the former Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. In other words, he’s juggled multiple high-stakes responsibilities and lived to tell the tale.
For his part, Wright seems genuinely energized about the move. “Credit unions play a vital role in strengthening financial well-being and expanding access to opportunities,” he said. “I’m honored to join an organization so deeply committed to its members and communities. I look forward to partnering with leadership and the Board to ensure we continue operating with the highest standards of integrity, compliance, and strategic foresight as we grow.”
The appointment comes as First Tech—which operates alongside Digital Federal Credit Union (DCU) as two divisions under the First Technology Federal Credit Union umbrella—continues its growth trajectory. With Wright’s expertise in the mix, the credit union is positioning itself to navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape while keeping its focus where it belongs: on delivering meaningful financial solutions to its members.
