Cedar Point FCU Partners with Velera to Transform Member Card Experience

Cedar Point Federal Credit Union just made a move that should make its 47,000+ members pretty happy.

The Maryland-based credit union is partnering with Velera to handle its debit and credit card processing, bringing some serious upgrades to the table in the process.

If Velera’s name sounds vaguely familiar, that’s because they’re kind of a big deal in the credit union world—they’re the largest payments CUSO (that’s credit union service organization, for those not fluent in financial acronyms) in the country. They specialize in making sure your card actually works when you need it to, which feels like a low bar but is apparently more complicated than it sounds.

Cedar Point isn’t exactly small potatoes itself. Managing over $882 million in assets, the credit union has been helping members navigate their finances since 1945. That’s nearly 80 years of financial guidance, which means they’ve seen everything from the introduction of credit cards to whatever crypto is pretending to be this week.

Why the Switch?

Cedar Point didn’t just throw a dart at a list of vendors and call it a day. They brought in advisory partners and ran a full RFP process to evaluate the industry’s top options. Think of it like dating but with more spreadsheets and fewer awkward dinners.

What sealed the deal? Velera’s modern payments experience, beefed-up fraud protection, and stronger support systems. Basically, all the things you want when you’re responsible for keeping nearly 50,000 people’s card transactions running smoothly.

“From the start, we were focused on finding a partner that understands both the operational demands of a growing credit union and the expectations of today’s cardholders,” said Charlie Roach, President and CEO of Cedar Point. “Working with Velera will enable us to streamline our card programs and provide the modern options our members rely on.”

When’s This Happening?

Don’t expect changes overnight. Velera will roll out its debit and credit card processing services in phases, starting in late 2026 and wrapping up in early 2027. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a complete card processing overhaul.

Tiffany Doty, SVP of Sales at Velera, emphasized the alignment between the two organizations: “Our partnership with Cedar Point reflects a shared commitment to serving members with innovation and care. We’re proud to provide the secure, modern card solutions their members expect while supporting the credit union’s mission of financial empowerment.”

Translation? Cedar Point members can look forward to better card experiences, tighter security, and the kind of seamless transactions that make you forget you’re even using a card in the first place. Which, let’s be honest, is exactly how it should work.
