A Midwestern credit union has climbed to the absolute top of the national rankings.
Veridian Credit Union just claimed the No. 1 spot among all U.S. credit unions in Callahan & Associates‘ Return of the Member Index for Q2 2026—which is basically the Oscar for actually delivering on those “we put members first” promises every financial institution loves to make.
So what exactly is this index? Think of it as a report card that measures how well credit unions are actually taking care of their members. Using hard data from regulatory call reports, it evaluates three big areas: how much value savers get, how good the deals are for borrowers, and how much members actually use the services offered. No fluff, no marketing spin—just the numbers.
“This recognition is especially meaningful because it reflects that we’re staying true to our purpose, helping our members build stronger financial futures and providing value that lasts,” said Veridian President and CEO Renee Christoffer. “As a member-owned cooperative, these efforts are core to our mission, and I’m grateful we have such a meaningful way to measure that impact.”
The really impressive part? This isn’t a fluke. Veridian consistently ranks in the top 1% of all U.S. credit unions on this index and has held a top 10 position since Q4 2022. Their last reign at the top was even more dominant—a seven-quarter winning streak from Q4 2017 through Q2 2019. And here’s a fun regional flex: Veridian is the only credit union based in Iowa, Nebraska, or Minnesota to snag the No. 1 ranking in the past five years.
