400+ Honor Credit Union Employees Trade Desks for Service Projects

Honor Credit Union CU Kind Day 2026

More than 400 Honor Credit Union team members spent October 12 volunteering at over 40 locations across Michigan as part of CU Kind Day.

CU Kind Day is an annual nationwide event where credit unions put their “people helping people” motto into practice through volunteer work and acts of service. Honor’s staff will be out in their local communities rather than at their usual workstations, which is a fair trade for most people.

Where the Work Happens

Honor’s volunteers will support a mix of nonprofits, schools, parks, food pantries, environmental groups, and community programs. Here are some of the partners involved:

  • Ottawa Elementary School in Berrien Springs
  • Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek
  • Kids’ Food Basket in Grand Rapids
  • Superior Watershed Partnership in Marquette

The projects are hands-on: facility improvements, landscaping, environmental cleanup, and help with food distribution.

What Honor’s Leadership Says

CEO Scott McFarland framed the day as an extension of how the credit union already operates. “At Honor, community is at the heart of everything we do,” he said. “CU Kind Day provides an incredible opportunity for our team to come together and demonstrate our commitment to service. We believe that when we invest our time, talents, and resources into our communities, we help create stronger, healthier places for everyone.”

He also argued that the job reaches past banking. “Our mission goes beyond financial services,” McFarland said. “Being present, lending a helping hand, and supporting organizations that make our communities thrive are all important ways we live out our purpose. We are proud to join credit unions across Michigan in making kindness visible through action.”

What to Watch For

Expect to see Honor volunteers at work around the state on October 12, alongside other Michigan credit unions taking part in the same national day. Photos and updates from the partner sites will likely follow, and the nonprofits involved may share what the extra hands helped them finish.
