Heritage Family Credit Union Taps David Walters as Chief Lending Officer

“There is already a very strong foundation here.” That’s how David Walters describes his new home at Heritage Family Credit Union, where he’s just been named Chief Lending Officer. For someone who has spent two decades in credit union lending, it’s a good sign that he sees something worth building on rather than something to tear down.

He arrives with more than 20 years of credit union lending and leadership experience, covering lending strategy, credit risk, operations, and member relationships. Most recently he served as Chief Lending Officer at 4Front Credit Union, and before that he was Vice President of Lending at Blaze Credit Union. His career-long focus has been building lending organizations that grow sustainably without loosening their grip on credit quality, operational discipline, or member financial well-being. He’s also keen on innovation.

Chris Gomez, Heritage Family’s Chief Executive Officer, says the hire fits the mission. “His deep industry knowledge, lending leadership, and expertise will help us provide affordable, high-quality loans to more members, helping families prosper across the communities we serve,” Gomez says.

Walters sounds equally enthusiastic. He says he’s excited to join an organization so committed to its members and communities, and he’s confident that working with the team will strengthen the credit union’s lending capabilities and create even greater value for members.

On the education front, Walters holds both a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from Ashford University. Away from the office, he likes to hike, ride bikes, and work out. He and his wife enjoy warm, sandy beaches, walks with their two dogs, and time with their kids. He’s also passionate about giving back to the communities credit unions serve and supporting the financial well-being of members and their families.

Walters had kind words for the search process, too. He called working with DDJ Myers an excellent experience, praising a thoughtful, structured approach and a team that took time to understand both his background and what he wanted from his next leadership role. In his words, they were professional, communicative, and supportive, and they cared about making sure he and Heritage Family were a strong fit.

For Heritage Family members, the practical upshot is a lending leader whose résumé is built around affordable, responsibly managed loans. If you borrow from the credit union, you can expect that priority to guide how its lending team works in the months ahead.

He was placed by DDJ Myers.
