Labor Community Foundation Honors Legacy of Dr. Kevin Jackson with Memorial Scholarship Program

The Labor Community Foundation, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit established by Labor Credit Union, proudly announces the launch of the Dr. Kevin Jackson Memorial Scholarship program. Established in 2023, this scholarship honors the late Dr. Kevin Jackson, who served as Board Chair for Labor Credit Union from 2021 until his passing in the fall of 2023. Dr. Jackson was pivotal in creating the Labor Community Foundation; his legacy continues through this initiative.

The Dr. Kevin Jackson Memorial Scholarship program supports students from modest financial backgrounds pursuing higher education in finance, engineering, and Information Technology. This program reflects Dr. Jackson's commitment to education and empowering future leaders.

In collaboration with H.D. Woodson High School, Labor Credit Union and the Labor Community Foundation provide student internships and now, through the scholarship program, further invest in the community's future. Scholarships were awarded through a competitive process requiring an essay, a letter of recommendation, and an academic evaluation.

Three outstanding students received scholarships of $1,000, $1,500, and a top award of $2,500. The awards were presented during an assembly attended by students, teachers, and parents. Dr. Kevin Jackson’s daughter, Kirsten T. Jackson, Vice President of the Labor Community Foundation, awarded the scholarships.

During the ceremony, recipients shared personal stories, highlighting the significance of the award in their lives. Their narratives of overcoming challenges and striving for academic excellence moved the audience.

"The Labor Community Foundation is committed to continuing Dr. Kevin Jackson’s legacy through this scholarship program," said Thomas Domingue, CEO of Labor Credit Union. "We believe in the potential of these young students and are dedicated to supporting their educational journeys."
