Mazuma Credit Union Sponsors 3DE by Junior Achievement Credit Union-Focused Case Study at Kansas City Metro High Schools

Credit unions provide students with a foundation for healthy financial habits

Mazuma Credit Union is excited to announce it is sponsoring a credit union-focused case study in partnership with 3DE by Junior Achievement, an innovative model for public education focused on reengineering high school to provide economic opportunity for all students.

Beginning next week, 3DE ninth-grade students at high schools throughout Kansas City will engage with the case study, developing the 3DE competency of Self Direction as well as an understanding of the value of credit unions and the importance of savings. Participating local high schools include:

  • Olathe East High School

  • Schlagle High School

  • Harmon High School

  • Northeast High School

“Mazuma is eager to help empower the next generation through financial education and wellness,” says Deonne Christensen, the credit union’s CEO and President. “Our partnership with 3DE by Junior Achievement will provide local high school students with actionable knowledge and experience around the importance of savings and the impact of compound interest, as well as the unique and vital purpose of credit unions in fostering financial health in our communities.”

In addition to the Kansas City metro, the credit union-focused case study is being delivered to students in five other cities across the U.S. under the brand “Credit Unions Nationwide” with credit union service organization Velera as the lead sponsor.

3DE by Junior Achievement is an immersive public high school model serving over 15,000 students across 60 schools in 32 districts and 13 states. 3DE makes learning relevant by connecting education to real-world concepts, drives engagement through business connectivity, and enhances student retention with opportunities to apply academic knowledge.

“It is impossible to overstate the significance of programs like 3DE by Junior Achievement to our nation’s youth,” said Velera President and CEO Chuck Fagan. “The financial services environment is changing more rapidly today than it ever has. For some growing up with an entirely digital relationship with finances, it is paramount that we teach them the fundamental money management skills they will need to be prudent and successful in the future. Velera is both humbled and extremely proud to have the opportunity to impact the lives and financial wellbeing of so many high school students through this partnership.”

Mazuma Credit Union’s partnership with 3DE by Junior Achievement will amplify current efforts with Junior Achievement (JA) across the industry, with more than 350 credit unions in 41 states already working with JA in some capacity. The sponsorship reflects Mazuma’s commitment to Making Kansas City a Better Place to Live, Work, and Bank through generously sharing the organization’s time, space, and resources with its 75+ community partner organizations that make a positive impact in the Kansas City area.
