On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Community Financial Credit Union is adopting a new name: orsa credit union, reflecting the organization’s 75-year legacy and its commitment to protecting people and its purpose of creating joy and igniting Michiganders’ impossible dreams.

“This is an evolution of how we show up, not a change in who we are,” said Tansley Stearns, president & ceo of orsa credit union. “Our purpose, values, and commitment to Michigan remain firmly in place. The name orsa gives us a clearer, more distinctive way to tell our story and grow our impact.”

The name orsa reflects the credit union’s longstanding role as a protector and guide for its members. Anchored by Daisy, the organization’s mama bear, and inspired by the Ursa constellations, a timeless symbol of guidance and orientation, the new name reinforces the cooperative’s focus on relentless care, courage, and forward momentum.

Board Chair Teri Kuehn emphasized the governance-led nature of the decision. “This change was the result of thoughtful listening, analysis, and planning,” Kuehn said. “As the credit union continues to grow its impact and innovate, having a distinctive and recognizable name strengthens our ability to serve members and communities across Michigan.”

Founded in 1951, orsa credit union serves more than 84,000 members and remains deeply rooted in Michigan. The name change does not affect member accounts, services, or day-to-day banking experiences.
