Spero Financial proudly received special recognition from the Greenville County Council during its meeting earlier this month, in celebration of the Credit Union’s 90th anniversary of serving the Greenville community and beyond.
Councilman Alan Mitchell presented a formal proclamation to commemorate this historic milestone, honoring Spero Financial’s enduring commitment to financial well-being, community development, and member service since its founding in 1935 as Greenville Telco Federal Credit Union.
“We celebrate [Spero’s] continued commitment to the growth and success of our community and extend our heartfelt appreciation for their service and dedication over the past nine decades,” Mitchell stated in reading the proclamation to meeting attendees.
The proclamation highlights Spero Financial’s role in fostering economic and social vitality throughout the region. With a mission rooted in trust, service, and empowerment, Spero has provided generations of members with the tools and resources to thrive financially—while remaining deeply involved in community initiatives that enrich local lives.
“Spero Financial was founded by and for the people residing in our communities,” said Brian McKay, President & CEO of Spero Financial. “Being recognized by our County Council is a humbling and meaningful tribute to the legacy we’ve built together with our members, employees, and community partners. We’re proud of where we’ve been—and even more excited about where we’re going.”
As Spero Financial celebrates this 90-year milestone, the Credit Union remains focused on delivering innovative financial solutions, promoting financial wellness, and continuing its legacy of community impact throughout South Carolina and beyond.
