Locally owned and operated credit union, GTE Financial is thrilled to celebrate 90 years of servicing the financial needs of its local residents, businesses and helping empower the Tampa Bay community.
“At GTE Financial, our commitment has always gone beyond just providing financial products and services—we are dedicated to enriching the lives of our members and our community,” says Brian Best, President and CEO of GTE Financial. “The past 90 years have been filled with good and challenging economic times, but GTE continued to grow, and expand its footprint and virtual reach, all while putting our membership first and bringing the best value and service to them. We are deeply grateful to our members for their trust and support, which has been the cornerstone of our success and growth.”
In 1935, one year after the Federal Credit Union Act was enacted, GTE was established in downtown Tampa by a handful of employees from the Peninsula Telephone Company. Today, it has grown to a membership of more than 230,000 and 24 locations across the region. In the past few years, the credit union has donated over $6 million to local charities and provided more than 29,000 volunteer hours. The credit union has also awarded over $1 million in scholarship funds to local students through GTE Financial’s Scholarship program.
GTE will have special activities and incentives throughout the year, including engaging its members by telling their stories on the credit union’s 90th Anniversary customized website. As a not-for-profit credit union, GTE Financial prioritizes the interests of its members.
