Purdue Federal Credit Union (Purdue Federal) supported a special back-to-school shopping spree on Friday, August 1, for six Purdue Athletes Life Success (PALS) campers at the Walmart in West Lafayette. The shopping spree was designed to help campers prepare for the upcoming school year by providing them with supplies and essentials to start strong and confident. This event was made possible thanks to a combined $1,200 donation from Purdue Federal and Purdue Federal Chief Experience and Chief Information Officer, Matthew Lerzak, and his wife, Paula.
Campers were selected for this opportunity based on their positive attitude and embodiment of the four PALS character pillars: respect, responsibility, caring, and courage. The PALS program offers a free summer camp experience for youth ages 8 to 12 whose family incomes are at or below federal poverty guidelines. Since 2007, Purdue Federal has proudly supported the PALS program by donating funds and resources to help provide this life-changing opportunity for local youth. This year, Purdue Federal contributed $25,000 to support the camp’s mission. Through activities focused on leadership, character development, and life skills, the camp helps campers build confidence and prepare for lifelong success.
In addition to financial support, Purdue Federal’s Financial Wellness team, along with other Purdue Federal team members, volunteered during several sessions throughout this year’s month-long camp. They assisted with camp activities and led interactive lessons on healthy money habits and financial wellness. Together, they provided mentorship and support, creating meaningful connections with campers and reinforcing the camp’s core values.
Through these efforts, Purdue Federal continues its commitment to strengthening the community by investing in programs that empower youth and promote education, aligning with its mission to foster lifelong success and provide meaningful opportunities for local families.
