ShredFest was held September 27 at Summit Credit Union’s headquarters in Cottage Grove, WI. Summit, a member-owned financial cooperative, along with the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Pellitteri Waste Systems have partnered on this annual event for more than 10 years. The free shredding event helps protect Summit’s members and local residents from identity theft.
“With fraud on the rise, protecting our members’ information has never been more critical. ShredFest is a proactive way to stop fraudsters in their tracks, keeping sensitive documents out of the wrong hands and helping our community stay safe,” said Summit Credit Union CEO & President Kim Sponem. “We’re proud of our partnership with the Better Business Bureau Serving Wisconsin and Pellitteri Waste Systems and appreciate all the volunteers who made another successful ShredFest possible.”
Almost 500 vehicles drove through, enabling attendees to drop off documents containing personally identifiable information such as Social Security numbers, banking details, bills, credit card statements, papers that include signatures and more. Two Pellitteri shred trucks were on hand, and 8 tons of paperwork were securely shredded and recycled.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Summit and Pellitteri for our free shredding event,” said Tiffany Bernhardt Schultz, Southwest Wisconsin BBB regional director. “We are thrilled to serve the community by helping consumers and businesses lessen the chance of identity theft.”
