Westerra Credit Union Stands Ready To Support The Community During Federal Government Shutdown

With the federal government now in shutdown as of today, Westerra Credit Union (Westerra) is taking proactive steps to support those in the community who may be impacted.

As a local, not-for-profit financial cooperative, Westerra is committed to standing by its members and the broader community during uncertain times. In response to the shutdown, Westerra is offering the Westerra Cares: Government Relief Loan — a special 6-month, 0% APR loan designed to help eligible members bridge the gap between paychecks. This loan is available to existing Westerra members who provide proof of federal furlough (in the form of a letter) along with a recent pay stub or direct deposit into a Westerra account.

“Our commitment to the community goes beyond banking,” said Anneliese Elrod, chief operations officer at Westerra Credit Union. “We’re here to provide stability, resources and real solutions when our members need it most. Moments like this are a reminder of why local financial institutions matter.”

In addition to financial assistance, Westerra is helping connect individuals to trusted nonprofit organizations offering essential services, including:

  • Mile High United Way (Call 211), directing residents to a broad network of community resources
  • Food Bank of the Rockies, offering food distribution throughout the region
  • Colorado Pet Pantry, providing pet food and supplies
  • Colorado Homeownership Coalition, providing mortgage assistance to homeowners experiencing a disruption in income to avoid delinquent mortgage payments

Westerra encourages anyone in need of support or guidance to reach out. Whether it’s through flexible financial solutions or by helping connect individuals to local services, Westerra remains dedicated to the well-being of the communities it serves.

“We understand this is a stressful time for many families,” added Elrod. “Our team is ready to listen, help and offer support in every way we can.”
