Royal & UW-System: Innovating Together Through Artificial Intelligence Internship Collaboration

AI interns in front of Royal Credit Union Corporate Central Building

Last summer, Royal Credit Union was proud to partner with three University of Wisconsin campuses, UW–Eau Claire, UW–River Falls, and UW–Stout, on an innovative, AI‑focused internship program that delivered real business impact while giving students meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities.

What made this internship unique was its multi-campus approach. Students from all three universities worked together across disciplines and locations, collaborating with Royal team members on projects directly tied to actual business challenges. This setup allowed students to combine their skills, learn from one another, and gain experience solving practical problems in a professional environment. A series of four articles dives deeper into this partnership:

  • UW-River Falls shares how faculty from all three UW campuses worked with Royal to design and launch the multi‑campus AI internship, focusing on defining project goals, mentoring students, and building a collaborative model that allowed students to tackle real business problems using data and machine learning.
  • An article by UW–Eau Claire explores how the internship leveraged AI to address meaningful challenges, emphasizing thoughtful and responsible use of technology while preparing students for future careers and highlighting the value of university‑business collaboration in innovation.
  • UW–Stout’s feature focuses on the students’ work using machine learning techniques to analyze data and build solutions for Royal, showing how their technical skills and teamwork translated into measurable outcomes and helped them grow professionally.
  • Looking at the broader community impact, the UW System’s All In Wisconsin story highlights how business connections help advance workforce development, foster innovation, and strengthen communities across the state.

This collaboration reflects Royal’s ongoing commitment to people, learning, and community. By investing in student experiences and collaborating with UW campuses, we’re helping build skills, explore innovation, and strengthen Wisconsin’s future workforce. We’re grateful to the students and university partners who made this internship possible and look forward to what’s ahead.
