The Florida Credit Union Association, a subsidiary of The League of Credit Unions, recognizes Senator Jonathan Martin (SD-33) as the recipient of the 2025 State Lawmaker of the Year Award in Florida, honoring his leadership and support of credit unions and the members he serves.
“Senator Martin has been a strong and consistent supporter of credit union priorities, demonstrating leadership on issues that protect and empower members,” said Christopher Hodge, Senior Director of Governmental Affairs at The League. “His sponsorship of Senate Resolution 1880 formally recognizes the F.I.G.H.T.—Financial Institutions Against Human Trafficking—initiative, highlighting how lawmakers can turn commitment into coordinated, community-wide action across Florida.”
Since joining the Florida Senate in 2016, Senator Martin has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service and an understanding of the role financial institutions play in supporting individuals, businesses, and local economies. Through service on the Banking and Insurance Committee, Appropriations Committee, and Commerce and Tourism Committee, and engagement on key policy issues, Senator Martin has helped advance initiatives that strengthen access to financial services across Florida. He is a long-time credit union member and a community advocate. Both roles inform his approach to policymaking.
“Being named the 2025 State Lawmaker of the Year by Florida’s credit unions is a meaningful honor,” said Senator Jonathan Martin. “Credit unions strengthen our local communities and protect the financial well-being of their members. I am proud to work alongside them on policies that support consumers and contribute to a strong, resilient Florida economy.”
“When lawmakers are engaged and solutions-oriented, credit unions are better positioned to serve their members,” shared Samantha A.M. Beeler, President of The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates. “Senator Martin’s leadership, including his work on Senate Resolution 1880, reflects a commitment to policies that strengthen communities and produce real results for Floridians.”
Senator Martin remains an engaged and accessible partner to Florida’s credit unions. The League appreciates his continued dedication to advancing the mission and vision of credit unions across the state.
