When you’re sitting through hours of cancer treatment, a granola bar can feel like a small miracle. It’s not just about the hunger—it’s about someone, somewhere, thinking of you during one of the hardest moments of your life.
That’s the heart of SnackStock 2026, and it’s officially underway in Pensacola.
What Is SnackStock, Anyway?
Think of it as a month-long snack drive with serious purpose. PenAir Credit Union is teaming up with Ascension Sacred Heart and the Pensacola Blue Wahoos to collect individually packaged snacks for cancer patients getting treatment at Ascension Sacred Heart Cancer Center. The goal? 8,000 snacks this May.
The campaign kicked off with an event at the cancer center, where leaders from all three organizations gathered to talk about why this matters. Spoiler alert: it’s not really about the snacks. It’s about showing up for your neighbors when they need it most.
Why Snacks Matter More Than You’d Think
Cancer treatment isn’t a quick in-and-out appointment. It’s long. It’s exhausting. It’s filled with waiting rooms and uncertainty and moments that drag on forever. In those stretches, something as simple as a pack of crackers or a protein bar becomes more than food—it’s a reminder that you’re not alone.
“At PenAir Credit Union, our purpose is to enhance lives, and SnackStock is one way we live that out alongside our partners,” says Lee Morgan, President and CEO of PenAir Credit Union.
Zachary Abercrombie, CFO at Ascension Sacred Heart, puts it even more plainly: “During treatment, time slows down and patients carry far more than the physical side of their care. Behind every infusion is a person facing emotional and financial uncertainty, and in those moments, even the smallest acts of kindness can mean everything.”
That’s the thing about SnackStock. It’s built on the understanding that supporting someone through cancer means more than just medical care—it means seeing the whole person.
The Wahoos Are In, Too
The Pensacola Blue Wahoos aren’t just lending their name to this effort—they’re using their platform to rally the community. Because if you can bring people together for baseball, you can definitely bring them together for something that matters off the field.
“Each day, the Wahoos strive to make memorable experiences,” says Jonathan Griffith, President of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. “Being a part of SnackStock gives us another way to do that and show up for those in our community going through a difficult time.”
How You Can Help
Getting involved is easy. SnackStock runs throughout May, and there are multiple ways to donate:
- Drop off individually packaged snacks at any PenAir Credit Union location
- Bring donations to any Wahoos home game this month
- Order directly from the Amazon Wishlist at penair.org/SnackStock
Every snack donated goes directly to patients at Ascension Sacred Heart Cancer Center. No middleman. No red tape. Just a straightforward way to make someone’s difficult day a little bit easier.
Community Care in Action
SnackStock 2026 is proof that when a credit union, a hospital, a baseball team, and a whole community decide to work together, good things happen. It’s not flashy. It won’t make national headlines. But for the person sitting in that treatment chair, wondering how they’ll get through the day, it might just make all the difference.
So if you’ve got a box of granola bars in your pantry or can grab some crackers next time you’re at the store, consider dropping them off. Because small acts, multiplied across a caring community, add up to something pretty powerful.
And honestly? That’s the kind of math we can all get behind.
