Four Local Students Score Big with First Capital FCU’s Dennis Flickinger Scholarships

Here’s some good news that doesn’t involve student loan dread: First Capital Federal Credit Union just handed out four Dennis Flickinger Honorable Scholarships to some seriously impressive local students.

The 2026 winners—Lily Perry, Ava Cataldi, Joshua Boyles, and Regan Koons—are heading off to college this fall with a little extra support in their pockets and some well-deserved recognition under their belts.

“We are delighted to award these scholarships to four outstanding students,” said Sue DeStephano, President and CEO of First Capital FCU. “We look forward to seeing all they accomplish in college and throughout their lives. We have no doubt they’ll make a meaningful impact.”

Meet the Winners

Lily Perry, a West York Area High School senior, is packing her bags for Belmont University where she’ll tackle engineering and physics. Because apparently one tough major wasn’t enough of a challenge.

Ava Cataldi from Dover Area High School is headed to Penn State University to study nursing—joining the ranks of healthcare heroes who actually know what all those beeping machines mean.

Joshua Boyles, a Kennard-Dale High School senior, is also Penn State bound. He’ll be majoring in history education with a pre-law concentration, which basically means he’s going to know exactly why things are the way they are and how to argue about it.

Regan Koons rounds out the group as a Red Lion High School senior. He’s set for West Chester University this fall to major in health and physical education—so he’ll be the person inspiring the next generation to actually enjoy gym class.

The Story Behind the Scholarship

The scholarship program got a meaningful rebrand back in 2016. It was renamed to honor Dennis Flickinger, First Capital’s former CEO who retired in 2015 after spending his career championing financial education in schools. Dennis was all about helping young people understand that credit unions offer a smarter path for their financial future—a legacy that lives on every time these scholarships get awarded.
