Here’s something you don’t see every day: nearly 380 high school athletes gearing up for a month of serious flag football action.
Space Coast Credit Union just announced they’re backing the Miami Dolphins Girls Flag Football League this summer. The timing couldn’t be better.
The program brings together young women from across South Florida for what’s basically a masterclass in competition and skill development. Think round robin tournaments, expert coaching, and the kind of training that turns good athletes into great ones.
“We’re proud to continue deepening our partnership with the Miami Dolphins through a program that supports local student-athlete development for young women across South Florida,” says Shane Hoyle, president and CEO of Space Coast Credit Union. He’s not wrong to be excited. Women’s flag football isn’t just having a moment—it’s building real momentum.
Why This Matters More Than You Think
In January 2026, the NCAA officially added women’s flag football to its Emerging Sports for Women program. Translation? There’s now a clear path to official NCAA championship status and actual varsity scholarships. For these athletes, this isn’t just summer fun—it’s potentially their ticket to college.
The league kicked off on June 9 with a packed schedule: three days of competition per week, tournament play, and skills training led by coaches from the Dolphins Youth Football program. Space Coast Credit Union is supporting the effort with swag bags for all participants (because who doesn’t love good swag?) plus additional backing for the playoffs and championship games happening July 7–8.
Building on a Winning Partnership
This initiative extends Space Coast Credit Union’s partnership with the Miami Dolphins, which launched in 2024 as the credit union’s first venture into professional sports sponsorship. Clearly, they’re not just dipping their toes in the water—they’re going all in on supporting the next generation of athletes.
With flag football gaining traction as a legitimate competitive sport and more resources flowing to women’s athletics, programs like this are doing more than just keeping kids busy for the summer. They’re opening doors.
