When you’ve got the right person already in the building, why look anywhere else? That’s exactly what Government Employees Federal Credit Union (GEFCU) decided after wrapping up a nationwide search for their next leader. The winner? Mark Dunkley, who’s been pulling serious weight as Executive Vice President for the past decade.
Dunkley officially takes the CEO reins on August 3, 2026, stepping into shoes left by Dee Crisp, who’s hanging it up after a solid 12-year run at the top.
“We are excited to have Mark as our new President/Chief Executive Officer and lead us into the next phase of immense growth opportunities,” said Richard Lee, Chairman of the Board. Translation: they searched high and low, and their ideal candidate was already down the hall. Lee added that the Board set clear expectations during recruitment, and Dunkley checked every box—then some.
A Decade of Proving Ground
This isn’t a “new guy learning the ropes” situation. Dunkley’s spent ten years as EVP, getting his hands dirty across lending, operations, technology, and everything that makes members’ lives easier. That kind of institutional knowledge doesn’t come from a LinkedIn profile—it comes from showing up and doing the work.
The Board’s betting that deep expertise will push GEFCU to “a higher level of service and offerings,” which sounds like corporate speak but actually means better products and smoother experiences for members.
Eyes on Austin and Beyond
Dunkley’s not just grateful for the promotion—he’s got plans. “I would like to thank the Board of Directors for their trust and confidence,” he said, before laying out his vision: building on GEFCU’s rock-solid foundation while capitalizing on growth opportunities around Austin and central Texas.
His playbook? Keep the tech current, roll out innovative loan products, and make sure deposit services stay competitive. The goal is to strengthen both the brand and the credit union’s footprint in the community. Pretty straightforward stuff, executed well.
