Florida Credit Union With Deep Community Roots Joins DCUC Family

A clean, professionally designed welcome graphic announces a new member of the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC). The layout features a white background with layered horizontal bands in light and dark blue spanning the width of the image, creating a modern, corporate appearance. On the left, a large light-blue outlined square frames the Calhoun Liberty Credit Union logo, making it the primary visual focal point. Across the top center, the DCUC logo is positioned between two thin horizontal blue lines, with the headline "DCUC'S NEWEST MEMBER" displayed below in bold, navy blue, all-capital lettering. The lower right section is dominated by a deep navy-blue banner featuring the large white word "WELCOME", with the DCUC tagline "Serving All Who Serve" centered beneath it in italic text. The overall design uses a patriotic palette of navy, light blue, and white, with a balanced, uncluttered layout that conveys professionalism and a warm welcome. It is well suited for social media announcements, member recognition, or organizational partnership communications.

The Defense Credit Union Council just got a little bigger—and a little more Southern. Calhoun Liberty Credit Union, based in Blountstown, Florida, has officially signed on as DCUC’s newest member, bringing decades of community banking experience to the table.

Here’s a credit union with a proper origin story: Back in 1957, a group of local teachers decided they’d had enough of limited financial options and started Calhoun County Teachers Credit Union. What began as educators looking out for educators has evolved into something much bigger. The institution has spent the better part of seven decades growing right alongside the communities it calls home, expanding who can join and what services they offer—all while keeping that personal touch that makes credit unions, well, credit unions.

The numbers tell a solid growth story. Today, Calhoun Liberty CU serves over 10,000 members, manages north of $170 million in assets, and operates three branches split between Blountstown and Bristol, Florida.

“Joining the Defense Credit Union Council is an exciting opportunity for Calhoun Liberty Credit Union,” says Thomas Flowers, the credit union’s CEO. “As a community-focused, member-owned financial cooperative, we are committed to strengthening the financial well-being of those we serve. We look forward to collaborating with fellow credit unions, sharing best practices, and leveraging DCUC’s advocacy and resources to better serve our members and the communities we call home.”

Anthony Hernandez, DCUC’s President and CEO (and retired U.S. Air Force Colonel), is equally enthusiastic about the partnership. “We are excited to welcome Calhoun Liberty Credit Union to the DCUC membership,” he notes. “Community-focused credit unions like Calhoun Liberty play a vital role in improving the financial well-being of the people they serve. We look forward to supporting their team through advocacy, education, collaboration, and the resources they need as they continue serving their members and communities.”

It’s another win for the credit union movement—and proof that institutions built on community values and member service continue to find strength in numbers.
