You know what’s better than celebrating how great your credit union is?
Doing it while handing out nearly $2,500 to local nonprofits.
First Capital Federal Credit Union recently joined the nationwide #ILOVEMYCREDITUNION Day festivities, proving once again that banking doesn’t have to be boring.
The annual social media campaign does exactly what it sounds like—it gives credit union members a chance to shout from the digital rooftops about why their financial institution actually gives a damn about them. And First Capital’s members had plenty to say.
The credit union sweetened the pot by offering $25 gift cards to members who shared their love stories. People gushed about everything from competitive rates and solid rewards programs to exceptional service and genuine community involvement. Basically, all the stuff that makes credit unions different from the “we’re just here for shareholder profits” crowd.
But here’s where things got interesting. First Capital also invited the community to vote for their favorite local nonprofits to compete for $2,400 in donations. Democracy in action, folks.
“#ILOVEMYCREDITUNION Day is a great reminder of what makes credit unions unique. Our commitment to our members and our communities,” explained Tara Houser Minetos, Senior Vice President of Marketing at First Capital Federal Credit Union. “Seeing our members, employees, and local nonprofits come together to celebrate the credit union difference reflects the People Helping People philosophy that guides everything we do.”
After the votes were tallied, the top four nonprofits moved on to the finals. And this is where it gets genuinely delightful: representatives from each organization competed in the York Revolution’s Fruit Race at WellSpan Park. Yes, you read that right. Their charitable funding came down to grown adults racing in fruit costumes at a baseball stadium.
When the fruit-flavored dust settled, here’s how the prizes shook out:
- LifePath Christian Ministries took home the grand prize of $1,000
- Right Foot Ranch scored $750 for second place
- York Habitat for Humanity nabbed $400 for third
- Building Bridges for Brianna received $250 for fourth place
Events like this showcase what the credit union movement is really about—putting money and support back into the communities they serve. First Capital isn’t just talking about investing in York County. They’re literally making people dress up as fruit to win charity money, and honestly, that’s the kind of creative community involvement we can get behind.
