Here’s what happens when you mix golf, good people, and a great cause: magic.
And by magic, we mean $90,000 heading straight to programs that change lives.
This past July 14, the Anchorage Golf Course hosted the Global Credit Union Foundation Fairway Friends Golf Tournament, and golfers from Alaska and beyond showed up ready to play. But this wasn’t just about birdies and bogeys—it was about supporting two incredible Alaska nonprofits doing serious good in the community: Challenge Alaska and Camp Fire Alaska.
The day brought together an eclectic mix of business partners, credit union folks, volunteers, and community members who spent the day competing (friendly-like) while Global employees manned on-course activities. Think of it as networking meets giving back, with golf carts.
“This tournament reflects what the Global Credit Union Foundation is all about: bringing people together to make a positive impact,” said Geoff Lundfelt, President of the Global Credit Union Foundation. “The funds raised will help support these incredible programs that create opportunity, connection, and lasting benefit for Alaskans.”
Where the Money’s Going (And Why It Matters)
The $90,000 raised got split right down the middle, with each nonprofit receiving $45,000 to fuel their missions.
Challenge Alaska is putting its share toward the Warrior Program—a recreation and sports initiative specifically designed for Veterans with disabilities. It’s more than just activities; it’s about creating a therapeutic space where Vets can reconnect through adaptive sports, build camaraderie, and find community. Because everyone deserves a place where they belong.
Camp Fire Alaska is channeling its funds into programs that empower young people through summer camps, afterschool programs, and leadership opportunities. Their scholarship programs ensure cost isn’t a barrier, making these experiences accessible to kids who might otherwise miss out. Investing in youth today means building stronger communities tomorrow—it’s that simple.
When a golf tournament can generate this kind of impact, everyone wins. Well, someone probably won the tournament too, but you get what we mean.
