The Raleigh-based credit union has teamed up with Triangle’s Goats on the Go to let a herd of four-legged landscapers loose on their headquarters campus for a two-week vegetation-clearing mission. It’s not a publicity stunt (okay, maybe a little). It’s actually a smart approach to land management called targeted grazing, and it’s about as eco-friendly as you can get.
Why Goats Make Better Landscapers Than You’d Think
Here’s the deal: Coastal’s campus had accumulated some seriously dense brush, aggressive vines, stubborn weeds, and those invasive plants that basically laugh at traditional removal methods. Instead of rolling in heavy machinery that tears up the ground or spraying herbicides that harm local wildlife, they went with nature’s original weed-whackers.
Goats on the Go specializes in this exact kind of sustainable landscaping. Their trained herds can navigate terrain that would make a riding mower weep — steep slopes, tangled undergrowth, areas where equipment just can’t reach. During the goats’ residency, Coastal employees can participate in educational activities about sustainable land management and fundraising initiatives that benefit the Coastal Credit Union Foundation. It’s team building that doesn’t involve trust falls or awkward icebreakers — just goats doing their thing.

As tempting as it might be to pet these adorable landscapers, both Coastal and Goats on the Go are asking everyone to resist the urge. Don’t touch, don’t feed, and definitely don’t hop the fence for a selfie. These goats are professionals on the job, and they need space to work safely.
