Here’s what it looks like when a credit union puts its money where its mission is: Robins Financial Credit Union just wrote checks totaling $260,000 to twelve nonprofit organizations across Middle Georgia.
Not a bad day’s work for organizations trying to move the needle on everything from hunger to housing.
This isn’t a one-off feel-good moment, either. Robins Financial runs this Community Project initiative every single year, opening applications to nonprofits working within their 45-county service area. The process is straightforward—organizations pitch their mission and show their community impact, and the credit union decides who gets funded. Think of it as Shark Tank, but everyone’s rooting for each other and the only thing getting shredded is red tape.
This year’s dozen recipients cover serious ground across the community needs spectrum:
- Georgia College & State University
- Habitat for Humanity of Putnam
- Houston County School District
- J.O.Y. CLINIC
- Macon Outreach at Mulberry
- Meals on Wheels of Middle Georgia, Inc
- Middle Georgia Community Action Agency, Inc.
- Mother’s Nest
- Telfair County Ferst Readers
- The Assembly at Warner Robins (Haven Hope House)
- The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia
- United in Pink
We’re talking education, healthcare, housing, food security, and essential services—basically the building blocks that keep communities functioning and families thriving.
Murali Thirumal, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Putnam County, broke down exactly where their grant is going. “We express deep gratitude for the grant from Robins Financial Credit Union which addresses critical infrastructure needs for the Carter Crossing development,” he explained. “This funding enables the immediate construction of septic systems, water infrastructure, and site preparation for the first six homes in the subdivision. Through this partnership, the ministry advances its mission to establish safe, affordable workforce housing for local families.”
Translation? This money is literally building the foundation—septic systems, water lines, the works—for six new affordable homes. That’s not abstract philanthropy; that’s concrete making a difference, quite literally.
The bigger picture gets even more impressive. Since launching this initiative back in 2015, Robins Financial has distributed more than $2.3 million to local nonprofits. That’s almost a decade of consistent community investment, year after year.
“Our Community Proud commitment is about investing in the people and organizations working every day to make our communities stronger,” said Christina O’Brien, President and CEO of Robins Financial Credit Union. “Through this year’s Community Project initiative, Robins Financial is honored to recognize twelve deserving organizations and help provide resources that can turn their ideas and efforts into lasting, positive impact.”
In other words, this credit union gets it—real community impact doesn’t happen through one big gesture. It happens through sustained partnership with the organizations already doing the hard work on the ground.
